Abstract:

Given that it was in the 19th century when, confronted with the emergence and consolidation of nationalisms, the formation of national identities became the focus of the most diverse cultural practices, especially literature, we decided to resort to one of the most representative works of Colombian literature such as “Maria” to analyze how, through the representation of affectionate feelings and the record of a series of self-referential fictions narrated in the novel, collective tones were beginning to be modeled, and people were being prepared for social life.

Keywords: identity, familiar institution, nationalization process.
