Abstract:

This article addresses radical contextualism in a critical and propositive way. Radical contextualism may be considered the most pivotal theoretical-methodological approach in cultural studies. Even though this approach presents some theoretical flaws, it is pertinent not only to keep it, but to complement it, so that we can get closer to its consolidation as a theoretical-methodological framework. With this in mind, radical contextualism is briefly introduced. Also, some criticism to cultural studies on radical contextualism will be addressed, in order to problematize it. Then, some analysis categories are put forward that may help to complete this theoretical-methodological framework.

Keywords: cultural studies, radical contextualism, setting, articulation, structure, agency.
