Abstract:

With Foucault, we may think it is possible for human and social sciences to give rise to a discourse, reflecting upon and translating social practices, which in turn may produce knowledge about objects in a particular historic lapse. In this context, we will review the notions of youth and being young, with a corpus made up of several discourses being configured about them in social sciences, including discursive formations relating youth to phenomena linked to social violence, on the one hand, and those relating youth to historic-political, social, and cultural events, linking them to youth’s participation and citizenship, on the other hand.

Keywords: knowledge, power, discourse, discursive formations, being young, youth.
