Abstract:

This article discusses the falling into obscurity of godly or political-theological figures of modern imperialism. Particularly, it defines the framework of said imperialism in the present theological language in the works of Francisco de Vitoria about the colonialization of the Americas. The operational adoption of this framework in his “secular” version is based on the active forgetting of this theology. The article concludes that this combination of adoption and forgetting is extended to the imperial affection that informs Western political formation.

Keywords: active forgetting, political theology, imperialism, secularization, affect, Western political formation.
